OSHA Training Syllabus

(for Turbine Tower Workers)

 

This OSHA focused training course for wind turbine worker safety is being offered in an effort to reach "at-risk" turbine workers, supervisors and other personnel responsible for construction and maintenance activities at wind turbine parks and educate them as to the unique hazards facing this industry. Key elements of the program will focus primarily on the unconventional safety and health concerns symptomatic of a new and developing industry such as this.

 

All attendees will become familiar with the OSHA standards as related to their specific job duties as set forth in 29 CFR 1910, 29 CFR 1926 and other safety and health standards where applicable. Attendees will receive an update and review of standard safety and health principles and information that will prepare them to recognize, abate or control a variety of hazardous conditions specific to the factors facing turbine tower workers and supervisors.

 

This class has been designed to be presented to workers and the site supervisors and therefore an emphasis on hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, NOT the standards themselves will be the focus.

 

The training will consist of computer presentation, videos, case studies, exercises, equipment and graphics whereby employing three levels of training technique - presentation, discussion and performance.

 

Course topics will include the following: Introduction to OSHA, Electrical, Fall Protection, Competent Climber, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Lifesaving Equipment, Materials Handling, Storage, Use and Disposal, Cranes and Hoists, & Excavations. All presentations will specific to the Wind Industry. Elective topics, yet unrelated to wind, which are commonly presented in such a course will not be discussed. Instead an increased emphasis will be placed on the high risk areas such as electrical, competent person for fall protection, competent climber, cranes and rigging.
